Alison Weir Tours

Flowers of Scotland

OVERVIEW

FLOWERS OF SCOTLAND

Following the success of our previous Scottish tours, we are delighted to be returning to Scotland and exploring the spectacular scenery and historic heritage, food and culture of this beautiful ancient kingdom. This tour will encompass the wide sweep of Scotland’s history and culture, and progress against the spectacular scenery of the Highlands and Lowlands. We have assembled a wonderful array of visits, from the splendour of Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh to the haunting landscape of the battlefield at Culloden. The tour will encompass a wide sweep of Scotland’s colourful history as we progress through the breath-taking Highlands and Lowlands, visiting royal palaces, castles, stately homes, churches and battlefields.

We will be staying in the award-winning 5* Intercontinental in Edinburgh, the stunning 5* Ness Walk Hotel in Inverness, and the iconic 5* Gleneagles Hotel. There will be five splendid included dinners, of which the highlights will be a gala evening onboard the Royal Yacht Britannia and a farewell dinner with all the glamour of the Highland clans at Glamis Castle.

For this tour, we are also introducing ‘The Whisky Experience’, giving guests the option to visit three of Scotland’s notable distilleries, take a tour and sample some ‘wee drams’.

As usual, there will be an enrichment programme of talks and all the other special elements that go to make up an Alison Weir Tour.

"This tour was really special.  I learned so much from the sites we visited and the talks from all the incredible historians.  These tours just fill you up with so much information, incredible sight seeing and camaraderie."

"Flowers of Scotland was fabulous."

"It was an amazing experience."

“Alison Weir Tours are not for the tourist wishing to just visit a few historical sites. This is a full immersion in history and the people who made it. AWT historians are top in their knowledge and presentation of the past; whether on a bus talk, a guided tour, or a dinner discussion. For those interested in true immersion of a specific time in Britain’s history, this tour is like no other. Despite being my fourth tour with AWT, I’m still amazed at the elite level of tour sites, hotels and personalized care attendees receive. For the individual looking to plunge into a time in history over ten full days, this might be for you.”

"The tour was perfect.  Absolutely breathtaking scenery, hotels lovely and the talks by the guides wonderful."

"I enjoyed Flowers very much and especially appreciated the lovely gifts."

"I had a fabulous time as I think everyone did."

"It was wonderful."

"We had an absolute ball and for first time ‘tour-goers’, let alone with Alison, we were amazed at how well it all went. Even when things did not turn out quite as planned (such as the trip to Huntington Tower), there was always a plus such as an explore of beautiful Gleneagles and a sleep in! Please pass on our congratulations and many thanks to Alison and team, the historians were so knowledgeable and even better, very friendly as were the rest of the tour participants."

"Flowers of Scotland was an exceptional tour."

"The tour once again was fantastic! Thank you for all you do to make these tours run so smoothly."

"What a brilliant, fabulous way to spend a holiday. As an avid history reader, my expectations for my first tour were high but Alison and her team exceeded them in every possible way. The itinerary was expertly crafted. The stories and history behind all the sights (from castle to cameo) were thoughtfully explained by the brilliant historian-guides. The fellow guests were like-minded history and travel buffs. The logistics were expertly organized and executed by John & Jo. I laughed, I cried, I became a Jacobite. A trip with Alison Weir should be on everyone's bucket list. I hope to have the privilege of joining again soon!"

"We had a wonderful time with Alison.  She is a very engaging person and I am in awe of her knowledge and intelligence.  Also the other historians were all very welcoming and gave such interesting talks."

'What wonderful trip! Thank you!!'
